The legendary heavy metal band PANTERA rolled into Mansfield on Saturday night for a night of pure metal music.  Pantera brought along Australian metal band King Parrot, and Swedish heavy metal band Amarth along for the ride. This wasn’t just a concert, it was an assault on the senses that left Mansfield’s Xfinity Center shaken to its core.

King Parrot might have only had 25 minutes to bring the energy and warm up the nearly sold-out Xfinity Center, and they succeeded. Led by Frontman Matt Young, King Parrot lit a fire under the crowd that burned long after they left the stage. Kicking off the show with “Home is Where The Gutter Is.” Mixing in songs from their four records, including “Shit on the Liver,” “Bozo,” and “Fuck You and the Horse You Rode in On.”

After a quick set change, the Xfinity stage was turned into a Viking haven for Amon Amarch. The Swedish band led by Vocalist Johan Hegg, bassist Ted Lundsrom, guitarists Johan Soderberg and Olavi Mikkoneen, and Jocke Wallgren rocking the Kit.  Their lyrics are mostly themed around Viking mythology and history and sometimes labeled as “Viking metal.”  The band walked on stage to an amazing setup with a two 20 foot tall Viking guards on each side of the stage, and a huge Viking helmet where the drum kit was perched high off the stage. It was definitely one of the coolest sets I’ve seen lately.

The set was kicked off with “Guardians of Asgaard” the band charged through fan favorites like "The Pursuit of Vikings" and "Twilight of the Thunder God,"  The coolest part of the set is when they played the anthem “Put Your Back Into The Oar”,  fans can be seen doing what is called the “fan row” when they are told to “ROW, ROW,ROW” during the chorus, to simulate the Viking longboat rowing motion.  This set was truly fun to watch. It was easy to see that Hegg and the rest of the band loves what they do.  If you’re into the metal scene, it’s definitely a show you have to see live.

Finally, it was time for the legendary Pantera to take to the Xfinity stage!!!  With a huge curtain hanging from the rafter blocking the stage with “PANTERA” in big red letters, chants of “PHIL” coming from the stands as the fans impatiently waiting for the curtain to drop and the set to begin. Generations of fans started to cheer as the lights go out, Music starts, and the curtain drops. It was hard to tell what was louder, The band or the fans?! As the band opened with “Hellbound” the stage was lit with strobes, multicolored stage lights and pyros, the party was on.

Pantera is composed of Phil Anselmo (Lead Vocals), bassist Rex Brown, guitarist Zakk Wylde and drummer, Charlie Benante. The band was tighter than tight as Phil sang through hit after hit and classics like "Walk," "Becoming," "I’m Broken," and "Mouth for War."  Just to name a few.

As the Pyros lit the stage along with an amazing light show, the energy never dropped below 10. This was more than just a concert, it was a living, breathing, hell-raising celebration of heavy metal and the brothers who built it. When you go to a three-artist concert and all three bands bring the heat, you definitely get your monies worth.  If you’re a metal fan, this is a show that you must see.
