Third Eye Blind: Nostalgia Meets Now In Mansfield
I have to start off this review and express my love for Third Eye Blind. Their debut self-titled album played on repeat when I first bought it. To this day I rock that album routinely. I previously have gone to 2 Third Eye Blind shows. The first show was 2007 at the Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts and from what I recall I was sadly not impressed. I then saw them at Xfinity Center in Mansfield in 2022 and I was blown away. It made me question whether I was crazy or not in 2007. Jump to 2024.
On one of the hottest summer evenings we’ve had, fans gathered at the sprawling outdoor venue, ready to relive the nostalgia of the late '90s and early 2000s with a performance. The California rockers, known for their infectious melodies and introspective lyrics, were set to deliver an unforgettable show. That is exactly what they did. The Xfinity Center, with its sprawling lawn and expansive amphitheater, was the perfect setting for Third Eye Blind’s energetic and nostalgic set. The venue's natural acoustics complemented the band’s sound, creating an immersive experience for fans of all ages. Stephan Jenkins commented that this was their largest Massachusetts crowd they have ever had. It was nice like this we wished it could have been an indoor venue. It was hot. While photographing the show for this review we were dripping with sweat. Despite that…we were here for it. As soon as that first chord was struck the suffering in the heat was totally forgotten. It was time to rock.
Frontman Stephan Jenkins, ever the charismatic showman, led the band with his signature blend of swagger and sincerity. From the moment he took the stage, it was clear that Third Eye Blind was determined to give fans a night to remember. The setlist was a well-crafted mix of their biggest hits and deeper cuts, ensuring a satisfying experience for both casual listeners and die-hard fans.
The band’s performance of “Semi-Charmed Life” was a highlight of the night. The infectious riff and sing-along chorus had the entire amphitheater swaying and singing in unison. Jenkins, despite the passage of time, still exuded the same youthful exuberance that made the song a hit decades ago. The energy was palpable, and it was clear that the band’s connection with their audience had only strengthened over the years.
Third Eye Blind’s stage presence was as engaging as ever. The band’s chemistry was evident, with Jenkins frequently interacting with both his bandmates and the audience. He took time to share anecdotes and express gratitude to the fans, making the evening feel personal and intimate despite the large venue. After roughly have the set the band switched gears and gave us a bit of an acoustic set. Totally changing the vibe of the whole show. It was really remarkable. The highlight for me personally was “Slow Motion”. That song always tugs at my heart strings. I am thrilled they had it on their playlist. As the crowd filed out of the venue, the buzz of excitement and the echoes of familiar songs lingered in the air. Third Eye Blind had once again proven their ability to connect with their audience, delivering a performance that was both a celebration of their past and a testament to their continued relevance in the rock scene. For those fortunate enough to witness the show, it was a night to remember.
Overall, this is a show that you do not want to miss. Despite the passage of time you do not see a let down of energy at all from Stephan or Brad. They are youthful as ever. His vocals were on point the whole time. I really hope that they keep touring year after year. We will be at every show in the New England area. Do not question if you want to see them live. Go.
